About the Social Caption Counter
Paste a caption and this counter measures it against the character limits that actually matter on each network. It reports the raw character count, characters without spaces, the word count, the number of hashtags (a # followed by word characters) and mentions (an @ handle), and a rough emoji count. Then it shows how many characters you have left — or how far over you are — for X/Twitter (280), Instagram captions (2200) and bios (150), TikTok (2200), YouTube titles (100) and descriptions (5000), Facebook posts (63206), LinkedIn posts (3000) and Threads (500).
It is handy when you write one caption to cross-post everywhere and need to know which platforms will cut you off. Everything runs in your browser as you type, so nothing is uploaded. The honest catch: these limits change over time and can differ by account type or region, and each app counts emoji its own way. Here an emoji is one code point, but some platforms count a single emoji as two characters, so treat the emoji-heavy numbers as a close guide rather than gospel.

How does it count emoji?
It matches the main pictographic Unicode ranges and counts each emoji as one code point. Some apps count a single emoji as two characters, so an emoji-heavy caption may register slightly differently inside the app than the raw count here suggests.
What counts as a hashtag or a mention?
A hashtag is a # followed by letters, numbers or underscores; a mention is an @ followed by those plus dots. It is a simple text pattern, so it counts what looks like a tag, not whether that account or hashtag actually exists.
Is my caption sent anywhere?
No. The counting happens entirely in your browser as you type. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged.
Why do I have characters left on one platform but am over on another?
