Frequently asked questions
Do these QR codes expire or stop working?
No. Every code here is static, meaning the data is encoded directly into the pattern itself. It does not point back through our servers, so it will keep working forever, even if this site disappears. The trade-off is that you cannot edit the destination after printing, and there is no scan tracking.
Is my WiFi password or contact information sent to you?
No. The code is generated in your browser using JavaScript, so whatever you type stays on your device and is never uploaded, stored or logged. That is exactly why this is a reasonable place to make a WiFi code.
Can I use these codes commercially, on packaging or signage?
Yes. The QR code specification is open and free of licensing restrictions, and the PNG you download is yours to use with no attribution and no limits.
How small can I print a QR code?
It depends on how much data it holds and how far away it will be scanned. As a rough guide, keep it at least 2 by 2 centimetres for something held in the hand, go larger for anything scanned from a distance, keep strong contrast, and always leave a quiet blank margin around the code. Test-scan the printed piece before ordering a full run.
