PDF Tools
Work with PDF files online — merge documents and turn images into PDFs. Files are processed on our server and deleted straight after.
About PDF Tools
PDF tools solve the small, annoying problems that come up whenever a document has to be sent, signed, printed or uploaded somewhere with a size limit. This category covers the whole common set: combining files, breaking them apart, shrinking them, converting them to and from images, and adding the finishing touches a form or a client expects. The merge PDF tool joins several documents into one in the order you choose, which is the usual fix when an application asks for a single attachment. The compress PDF tool reduces file size when an upload box refuses anything over a few megabytes, and split PDF breaks a long document into separate files.
Which one you need depends on what is wrong with the file in front of you. If the problem is structure, reach for merge, split, extract pages, remove pages or rotate PDF. If the problem is size, compress is the answer, though be aware that heavy compression works by lowering image quality, so scanned documents lose the most. If the problem is that someone needs to read it as a picture, PDF to JPG and PDF to PNG convert each page to an image, while JPG to PDF goes the other way and turns photos of paperwork into a proper document. If the problem is access, protect PDF adds a password and unlock PDF removes one you already know. Sign PDF, watermark PDF, add page numbers and repair PDF cover the rest.
These tools are different from our calculators and we want to be straight about why. PDF editing cannot be done properly inside a browser, so the file you choose is uploaded to our server, processed there, and sent straight back to you. Here is exactly what that means in practice: your file is stored under a random name in a folder that is not reachable from the web, it is deleted immediately once your download is served, and anything left behind by an interrupted or abandoned download is swept away automatically within 30 minutes. Nobody browses it and it is never kept.
Frequently asked questions
Are my PDF files uploaded to your server?
Yes. Unlike our calculators, PDF editing cannot run inside a browser, so your file is uploaded, converted on our server and sent back to you.
How long do you keep my file?
It is deleted immediately after your download is served. While it exists it is stored under a random name in a folder that is not reachable from the web, and anything left over from an interrupted download is removed automatically within 30 minutes.
How much smaller will Compress PDF make my file?
It depends entirely on the document. Scanned or image-heavy PDFs shrink the most because compression works by reducing image quality, while a text-only PDF is already small and may barely change.
Can Unlock PDF open a document if I do not know the password?
No. It removes protection from a document you can already open, such as one where you know the password. It is not a way to break into a file you do not have access to.
