Formula Value = (spot price per gram × purity) × weight in grams × currency rate

About the Gold & Silver Rate Calculator

This calculator values a weight of gold or silver at the live spot price — the wholesale, per-ounce market rate that London and New York quote and that every jeweller and bank works back from. It pulls the current gold (XAU) and silver (XAG) price, divides it down to a per-gram figure, scales it by the karat purity you choose and the weight you enter, and converts the result into your currency using a live exchange rate. The rate is fetched fresh and cached for a few minutes, so it is current without hammering the market feed.

Two ideas make the number make sense. Purity is why 22K and 24K gold of the same weight are worth different amounts: 24K is essentially pure, 22K is 91.7% gold, 18K is 75%, and the rest is alloy. Weight units differ by region — the world trades gold in the troy ounce (31.103 g, heavier than the kitchen ounce), while South Asia buys in the tola (11.664 g) and the West in grams. The calculator handles all of them so a "tola of 22K" and an "ounce of 24K" both come out right.

What this shows is the raw metal value, and that is the honest limit: it is not the price you pay at a shop or get when you sell. Jewellers add making charges and a margin, coins and small bars carry a premium over spot, and a buyer pays under spot. Treat it as the fair baseline to check any quote against, not a purchase price — and not investment advice. To convert the weight units themselves, see the weight converter, or work out returns with the ROI calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Is the gold price live?

Yes. It uses the current spot price of gold and silver, refreshed every few minutes from a live market feed and cached briefly so the page stays fast. The result also shows how long ago the rate was updated.

Why is this different from the price at my jeweller?

This is the spot (wholesale) metal value. A jeweller adds making charges and a retail margin, and coins or bars sell at a premium over spot, so you pay more than this to buy and receive a little less than this to sell. Use it as the baseline to judge a quote, not the final price.

What is a tola and how much is it?

The tola is the traditional gold weight of India, Pakistan and neighbouring countries. One tola is 11.6638 grams. This calculator supports it alongside grams, the troy ounce and kilograms so you can value gold the way it is actually bought locally.

What does the karat (purity) setting change?

It scales the value by how much of the metal is actually gold. 24K is pure gold, 22K is 91.7%, 18K is 75%. Two pieces of the same weight are worth different amounts if their purity differs — the rest is cheaper alloy metal.

Which currency does it show?

Any of 25, from US Dollars and Euros to the Indian Rupee, Pakistani Rupee and Gulf currencies. The spot price is quoted in USD and converted using a live exchange rate, updated daily.
