About the Commission Calculator

Commission ties pay to results — a percentage of what you sell, sometimes on top of a fixed base. This calculator does the arithmetic in one step: it multiplies the sale amount by your commission rate, then adds any base pay to show total earnings. It is the quick check you want when sizing up a deal, verifying a payslip, or comparing one commission structure against another.

Because both the rate and the base are yours to set, it flexes to almost any arrangement — straight commission with no base, a modest base topped up by commission, or a flat percentage across the board. Changing the sale amount shows immediately how much each extra dollar of sales is worth to you, which is often the number that actually motivates.

This covers single-rate commission cleanly; it does not model tiered rates that rise past a threshold, splits between team members, or tax withheld from the payout. For profit on goods you sell, the profit margin calculator and markup calculator cover that side.

Frequently asked questions

How is commission calculated?

Multiply the sale amount by the commission rate as a percentage. A 5% commission on a $25,000 sale is $1,250. Any base pay is then added on top to give total earnings.

Can I include a base salary?

Yes. Enter your fixed base pay and the calculator adds it to the commission. Leave it at zero for a straight-commission arrangement with no base.

Does it handle tiered commission?

No — it applies a single rate to the whole sale. For tiered structures where the rate rises past a threshold, calculate each tier separately and add the results.
