How to use the Pomodoro Timer

  1. Press Start to begin a 25-minute focus session (adjustable).
  2. When it ends, an alarm sounds and a 5-minute break begins automatically.
  3. After four focus sessions you get a longer break; Skip or Reset any time.

About the Pomodoro Timer

The Pomodoro Technique breaks work into focused sessions separated by regular breaks, and this timer runs the whole cycle for you. The defaults are a 25-minute focus session, a 5-minute short break and a 15-minute long break, and every one of those lengths is adjustable if the classic timings do not suit the way you work.

Press Start and it counts down the current phase; when a phase ends it plays a short beep and moves straight into the next one on its own, so you are not left having to restart it each time. After every four completed focus sessions you earn the longer break; the other three times you get a short break. It keeps a running count of the focus sessions you have finished, and Start doubles as Pause. Skip jumps to the next phase and Reset returns to the beginning.

Two honest points. The tab has to stay open for the countdown and the beeps to keep working. And nothing is saved: reload the page and your session count and any adjusted settings return to their defaults, so change the lengths at the start of a working block rather than midway through. If you just want a plain countdown without the break cycle, the online timer does exactly that.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

It is a time-management method that splits work into focused sessions, traditionally 25 minutes, each followed by a short break, with a longer break after every fourth session. The regular breaks are meant to keep your concentration fresh and make large tasks feel more manageable.

Can I change the 25, 5 and 15 minute lengths?

Yes. All three durations, the focus session, the short break and the long break, are adjustable, so you can shorten or lengthen them to fit how you work. The classic 25 and 5 minute pattern is only the starting default.

When do I get the long break?

After every four completed focus sessions. The first three focus sessions are each followed by a short break, and the fourth is followed by the long break, after which the cycle begins again. The tool counts your sessions so it knows which break to give.

Does it start the next phase automatically?

Yes. When a phase reaches zero it plays a short beep and moves straight into the next phase without you having to press anything. You can use Skip to jump ahead, Pause to hold the countdown, or Reset to start over.

Are my settings and session count saved?

No. Everything lives in the open page, so reloading or closing it resets your completed-session count and returns the durations to their defaults. Set your preferred lengths at the start of a work block, and avoid refreshing while a cycle is running.
