About the Mobile & Tablet Test
Fourteen free tests for a phone or tablet, grouped by what they check: screen and touch for the digitiser, dead pixels, resolution and refresh rate; sensors for the accelerometer, gyroscope, vibration motor and battery; audio and video for speakers, microphone, camera and a practical QR scan; and everything else, including device details and both on-screen and attached keyboards. Each test says why it matters on a phone specifically, so you can go straight to whatever is misbehaving.
The usual reason to work through a list like this is money changing hands. Buying second-hand, a few minutes with the touch screen test finds the dead zones no listing photo shows, and the sensor checks catch a phone that was dropped harder than admitted. Selling, the same tests let you say honestly what works. They also earn their keep when you are chasing a fault, checking a screen replacement was done properly, or making sure the mic works before a call rather than after it.

Frequently asked questions
What should I check before buying a used phone?
The screen and the touch digitiser first, since they are the costly repairs. Drag across the whole touch surface looking for dead zones, run the dead pixel test on solid colours, then check the motion sensors, the vibration motor, the speakers, the microphone and the camera. Battery status tells you the charge but not the health.
Do these work on an iPhone?
Most do, with two real exceptions. Vibration does not work on iPhone or iPad at all, because Safari does not support it for web pages. The motion sensor test works but needs you to allow Motion and Orientation when Safari asks, on a secure page. Battery status is also unavailable in Safari.
Does anything get installed on my phone?
No. Every test runs in the browser you are already using. There is no app, no sign-up, and nothing you do is sent anywhere, so it is safe to run on a device that is not yours.
Which tests ask for permission?
The camera, microphone and QR scanner need browser permission to access the hardware, and the motion sensors need it on iOS. Each prompt is your browser asking, not the site, and you can refuse or revoke it at any time.
