About the Image Resizer

Drop in a PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF and the first thing you get is a straight answer: the image's exact pixel dimensions, its aspect ratio, its megapixel count and its file size — read from the decoded image itself, not from whatever the file claims. That alone answers the most common question people bring to a resizer.

Then you resize it. Type a width and height, or take a preset: 1080p, 4K UHD, a 1200×630 social share card, a 1080×1080 square post, a 1080×1920 story, an X header, a LinkedIn banner, A4 at 300 DPI, a 600×600 passport photo, or an app icon. Aspect-ratio buttons (1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 9:16, 21:9 and more) reshape the frame while keeping the width you already set.

Stretch, pad or crop — the choice that matters

Asking for "1080×1080" from a photo that is not square forces a decision, and most resizers make it for you silently. This one asks:

  • Add padding — the picture keeps its true proportions and sits centred, with the leftover space filled in a colour you choose. White by default, or fully transparent for PNG and WebP. Nothing is distorted and nothing is lost. This is the default, and it is what "make it exactly 1080×1080" almost always means.
  • Stretch to fit — the image is squeezed or pulled to fill the box exactly. Fast, but people look wider and circles become ovals. Useful when the shape difference is tiny, or when the distortion is deliberate.
  • Crop to fill — proportions are kept and the frame is filled edge to edge, with the overflow trimmed from the sides or the top and bottom. Good for banners and thumbnails where filling the space matters more than keeping every pixel.

The whole thing runs on an HTML canvas inside your browser: the picture never leaves your device, nothing is uploaded, and there is no server copy to worry about. For personal photos, ID scans or client work, that is a genuine difference rather than a marketing line. A few honest limits. It works on raster images, and for an animated GIF it resizes the first frame only. Enlarging past the original cannot invent detail that was never captured, so heavy upscaling looks soft — the tool will not pretend otherwise. And JPG has no transparency at all, so a transparent pad falls back to a solid colour there; choose PNG or WebP if you need the background to stay clear.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole resize happens in your browser on a canvas, and the file is downloaded from there. Nothing is sent to a server, which makes it safe for private photos and documents.

How do I find out my image's exact pixel size?

Drop it in. The size in pixels, the aspect ratio, the megapixel count and the file size all appear immediately, before you change anything. The dimensions are read from the decoded image, so they are the real ones rather than whatever the file's metadata claims.

How do I resize to an exact size without stretching the picture?

Leave the mode on "Add padding". The image is scaled to fit inside your target box at its true proportions and centred, and the leftover space is filled with a colour — white by default, or transparent for PNG and WebP. You get the exact dimensions you asked for with nothing squashed and nothing cropped.

What is the difference between padding, stretching and cropping?

Padding keeps the whole picture at its real proportions and fills the gap with a colour. Stretching pulls the image to fill the box exactly, which distorts it if the shape differs. Cropping keeps proportions and fills the box completely, cutting off whatever hangs over the edges. Padding is safest, cropping suits banners and thumbnails, and stretching is only worth it when the shape difference is very small.

Will resizing distort my image?

Only if you choose "Stretch to fit". By default the aspect ratio is locked, so setting one dimension calculates the other; and if you pick a preset with a different shape, padding keeps the proportions intact rather than squashing anything.

Can I enlarge an image to a bigger size?

You can, but resizing cannot add detail that was never in the original. Scaling well beyond the source size will look soft or blurry, because there is no extra information to draw from.

Why did my transparent image get a white background?

You exported to JPG, and JPG does not support transparency. The tool flattens the image onto white so the file is valid. Export as PNG or WebP instead, and tick "Transparent" in the padding options, to keep transparent areas.

Which formats can I use?

You can load PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF, and export as PNG, JPG or WebP with an adjustable quality for the lossy formats. Animated GIFs are supported as a still — only the first frame is resized.
