    About the WebP to PNG

This tool decodes each WebP with Imagick and re-encodes it as PNG. PNG is loss-free and, crucially, keeps the full alpha channel, so a WebP with a transparent background comes out as a PNG with that same transparency intact — nothing is flattened onto white. That is the difference between this and WebP to JPG, which has to fill transparent areas because JPG cannot store them.

Why convert at all, when WebP is usually the smaller, more modern format? Compatibility. Some older software, email clients, editors and operating-system previews still do not read WebP, whereas PNG opens everywhere. Converting to PNG trades a larger file for a picture you can be sure will open, edit and print anywhere, without touching the pixels.

The result is normally larger than the WebP you started with, because PNG stores every pixel exactly rather than compressing them. If size matters more than universal support, keep the WebP or shrink the PNG afterwards with compress image. To go back the other way, use PNG to WebP. Convert up to 30 at once; several return as a ZIP. Files are uploaded, processed under random names in a folder blocked from web access, and deleted when the request ends. Up to 20 MB each, 25 MB total.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is transparency preserved?

Yes. PNG supports a full alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent areas in the WebP are kept exactly in the PNG.

Why is the PNG bigger than the WebP?

PNG stores every pixel losslessly while WebP compresses them, so a PNG of the same image is usually several times larger. That is the cost of lossless quality and wide compatibility.

Why convert WebP to PNG at all?

For compatibility. Some older apps, email clients and preview tools still cannot open WebP, whereas PNG opens virtually everywhere.

Can I convert several WebP files together?

Yes, up to 30 at a time. A single image comes back on its own; multiple images come back in a ZIP.

    Are my files kept?

No. Each file is converted under a random name and deleted as soon as the request completes.
