About Text Tools

Text tools are the small utilities you reach for when a piece of writing needs counting, cleaning or reshaping and opening a full editor would be overkill. This category collects twenty-two of them, covering everything from a plain word counter for hitting an assignment limit, to a case converter for fixing a headline that arrived in ALL CAPS, to a remove duplicate lines tool for tidying an exported list. Students, writers, editors, marketers, support staff and developers all end up here for the same reason: a paragraph or a list needs one specific transformation, and it needs it now.

Which tool you want depends on what is wrong with your text. If you are measuring, start with the character counter for hard limits or the word frequency counter when you want to see which words you lean on too heavily. If you are cleaning, remove extra spaces and remove empty lines handle the mess that copy-and-paste leaves behind, while sort lines alphabetically puts a list in order. For changing text into another shape, the slug generator turns a title into a clean URL, and find and replace does bulk edits without a code editor. Comparing two drafts is the job of text compare, and if you are checking how a piece reads before publishing, the readability checker gives you a sense of its difficulty. The odder ones — ROT13, the Morse code translator and reverse text — are there for puzzles, teaching and the occasional genuine need.

Everything in this category shares the same three properties. All of the tools are free, with no account, no sign-up and no trial. All of them run entirely inside your browser, which means the text you paste is processed by JavaScript on your own machine and never uploaded to us or anyone else — safe for a draft contract, an internal email or unpublished work. And all of them are built to be instant: type or paste, see the result, copy it, close the tab. If you need code-oriented conversions instead, the developer tools category sits right alongside this one.

Frequently asked questions

Is the text I paste into these tools uploaded anywhere?

No. Every tool in this category runs in your browser using JavaScript, so your text is processed on your own device and never sent to our server. You can confirm this by loading a tool and then disconnecting from the internet: it will still work.

Do I need to create an account or pay for anything?

No. All twenty-two text tools are free to use with no sign-up, no email address and no limits on how many times you use them.

How large a document can I paste in?

There is no fixed limit we impose, but because the work happens in your browser, very large documents depend on your device's memory and speed. Ordinary articles, essays and lists of a few thousand lines are comfortable; a book-length file may make the page slow to respond.

Does the word counter count the same way Microsoft Word does?

Usually, but not always. Word counters differ in how they treat hyphenated words, numbers and symbols, so a long document can differ by a handful of words between tools. If a strict limit matters, check in the exact program your work will be graded or reviewed in.
