About the Barcode Scanner
Barcode Scanner reads every common symbology in one place: the retail codes on packaging (EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E), the logistics and industrial ones (Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, ITF, Codabar, GS1 DataBar) and the two-dimensional ones (QR, Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec). You do not need to know which one you are holding — it identifies the type and says so.
There are three ways in, and they suit different situations. The camera is for a physical label in front of you. Dropping or choosing an image is for a photo, a screenshot or a PDF page you have exported. Pasting with Ctrl + V is usually the quickest of the three, because a code you have been sent is normally already on your clipboard. Images can be PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP or SVG.
Whatever it reads is opened up rather than printed. A retail number is broken into its GS1 prefix, manufacturer, product and check digit; a QR code carrying a Wi-Fi login shows the network, the security type and the password as separate fields; a link shows its domain and every tracking parameter. Passwords and two-factor secrets stay blurred until you ask for them, because a password on screen is something a screen share collects whether you meant it to or not.
Everything runs on your device. The camera feed and any image you supply are never uploaded, which is what you want when a code might be a boarding pass, a prescription label or a Wi-Fi password. To create codes instead of reading them, see the QR code generator.

Which barcode types can it read?
EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, ITF, Codabar and GS1 DataBar among the linear ones, plus QR, Data Matrix, PDF417 and Aztec in two dimensions. It works out which one it is looking at, so you do not have to.
Do I have to use the camera?
No. Drop in an image, choose a file, or paste one with Ctrl + V — pasting is usually fastest, because a code someone has sent you is already on the clipboard. All three routes decode on your device.
Is my image or camera feed uploaded?
No. The decoder runs entirely in your browser, so nothing leaves your device. That matters here more than on most tools, because barcodes routinely carry boarding passes, prescriptions and Wi-Fi passwords.
Why will it not read my barcode?
Usually the picture, not the code. A linear barcode needs the whole width of the bars in frame, reasonably square-on and in focus; blur, glare and a steep angle all defeat it. Try filling more of the frame and taking the photo straight on.
Can it look up the product for a retail barcode?
No, and nothing free can do so reliably. The number identifies the product, but the price and stock live in each shop's own system. What you get here is the number and what its parts mean.
