About the Phone QR Code Generator
A phone QR code encodes a tel: link — the standard URI for a telephone number. Scanning it opens the phone’s dialler with your number already entered, so the person taps once to call instead of copying digits off a sign. Shopfronts, taxi cards, service vans and takeaway menus all use them for the same reason: it removes the moment where someone mistypes a digit and gives up. This tool strips spaces from the number before encoding, since tel: links are cleanest without them.
Always include the country code with a leading plus, for example +1 or +44. Without it, the number only works for people whose phone happens to assume the same country — an easily-missed failure on anything a visitor might scan. Most phones show a confirmation before dialling rather than placing the call instantly; do not design a poster that assumes otherwise. Scanners on tablets with no phone capability will usually just display the number as text.

Frequently asked questions
Does it call the number automatically?
Generally no. Most phones open the dialler with the number ready and wait for the person to tap call, or show a confirmation first. That is a deliberate safety behaviour and you cannot override it.
Do I need the country code?
Yes — include it, like +1 555 123 4567. Without a country code the number only dials correctly for people in your own country, which quietly breaks the code for every visitor.
Can I include an extension?
Support for extensions in tel: links is patchy across phones and networks. If your extension matters, it is safer to encode the main number and print the extension as text beside the code.
What happens if someone scans it on a tablet?
A device with no calling capability usually just shows the number, or offers to call through an app like WhatsApp or Skype if one is installed.
Is my number sent to your server?
No. The QR code is built in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded.
