Pints (pt) and Quarts (qt) are both units of volume, so converting between them is a single multiplication: multiply your Pints figure by 0.5. Ten Pints comes to 5 Quarts, and a hundred works out at 50 Quarts.

Rule of thumb: going from Pints to Quarts divides, so the figure always shrinks — it takes about 2 Pints to make a single Quart. If your answer came out bigger, you have the conversion the wrong way round.

What is a Pint?

The pint is where the US-imperial split becomes most visible, because both countries still use the word every day. A US pint is 16 US fluid ounces; an imperial pint is 20 imperial fluid ounces, making the British pint the larger by about a fifth. So a pint of beer in London is meaningfully more beer than a pint in New York — the same word, a different drink, and no label anywhere warns you. The imperial pint is also one of the few imperial units still legally mandated in the UK, where draught beer and cider must be sold in pints or fractions of one.

What is a Quart?

A quart is a quarter of a gallon, which is exactly where the name comes from — the Latin for a fourth part. Because the American and imperial gallons are different sizes, so are their quarts: the imperial quart is the larger by roughly a fifth, a discrepancy that quietly ruins recipes and technical specs copied across the Atlantic without checking. In the United States the quart is a supermarket fixture — milk, cream, motor oil and paint are all sold in them. Britain, having gone metric on the shelf, has largely dropped it and kept only the pint.

To put both in perspective: a pint is the standard glass of beer in a British pub, while a quart is the size of a standard carton of American milk.
