About the Crop Image

This tool cuts an image down to a rectangle you choose. Load a picture and drag across it to draw a selection box; the pixel dimensions of your selection are shown as you go, so you can size it precisely. When you are happy, one click exports just that region as a new image at its true resolution — the crop is taken from the full-size original, not the scaled-down preview, so no sharpness is lost.

It works with a mouse or by touch on a phone or tablet, so you can trim a screenshot on a laptop or a photo on your phone the same way. As with the other tools here, the whole thing runs on a canvas in your browser: the image is never uploaded, which keeps documents, screenshots and personal photos private.

Cropping is the fastest way to remove an unwanted border, focus on a subject, or make a square thumbnail from a wider shot. Pair it with rotate image to straighten first and crop the tilted edges away, or flip image to mirror. To change the overall pixel size afterwards, use the image resizer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the crop area?

Drag across the image to draw a rectangle. The selection updates live and shows its size in pixels, so you can make it as precise as you like.

Does cropping lower the resolution?

No. The crop is taken from the full-resolution original, not the on-screen preview, so the part you keep stays as sharp as it was.

Can I crop on my phone?

Yes. The tool supports touch, so you can drag out a crop area with your finger on a phone or tablet.

Is my image uploaded to crop it?

No. Cropping happens entirely in your browser on a canvas. Nothing is sent to a server or stored anywhere.

What format is the cropped image saved as?

A cropped PNG stays a PNG with transparency; other formats are saved as a high-quality JPEG. The download contains only the region you selected.
